“The Batman” movie project has rapidly developed as one of the more anticipated DCEU titles under making, and the wait seems to have extended by another year. With an extensive list of movies already in the making, it was always difficult to chalk out a date for “The Batman.” In a recent report, it looks like Warner Bros have finally got things sorted and they are aiming to release the movie in 2018.
The news of Ben Affleck leaving the director’s role certainly left the fans a little high & dry, and the reported delay won’t help it by any means.
They did make a worthy replacement for Ben Affleck with “Dawn and War for the Planet of the Apes” director Matt Reeve but waiting till 2019 would be too long for a movie that carries such an anticipation. Even in 2019, DCEU has the sequel of Justice League lined up, so it will be interesting to see whether ‘The Batman’ serves as the lead into that film or it becomes the first DCEU film to release after Justice League 2.
However, Batman movie is going to trash all the work on the script by Ben Affleck and will be starting fresh. That means Matt will have to get a finished script by the end of this year, complete the casting in the first quarter of next year, and then finish off with the production in the remaining half of next year. If the release is slated after Justice League 2, Reeves might as well get some time to fine tune his production again.
As for now, all we have to do is wait for the San Diego Comic-Con so that all our confusion regarding the DCEU timetable gets cleared away. Do shoot in your thoughts on this in the comments section below.
