As per the latest reports Suicide Squad 2 is likely to start shooting in spring 2018. Wonder Woman’s success has given a high standing to DC cinematic universe, and they are reaping benefits of it. Although the earlier DC films also did fine at the box-office, it was the critical appreciation that didn’t come their way until summer 2017. Now Justice League is all set to repeat that magical success next month, and Warner Bros./DC has no plans to stop either with the upcoming film or the proposed solos.
Other than the upcoming solo movies featuring various Justice League characters, Warner and DC are currently developing more than a dozen projects which are at various stages. Today, we heard about Gareth Evans directing a Deathstroke film. Assuming this is confirmed, the news will remove all doubts about the villain and his presence in The Batman. It also highlights the fact that DC is giving as much value to its villains as generally accorded to its heroes. Suicide Squad made a lot of money last year at the box office, and it also received a great deal of fan support. It seems that the sequel is now all set to go into production.
There was an update from My Entertainment World (via Omega Underground) about Suicide Squad 2 to start filming from mid-March next year. That’s less than five months to go, and it means that there is going to be a great deal of casting and plot information headed our way in next few months.
Things haven’t really progressed at a rapid pace despite the fact that Suicide Squad did great and its sequel was announced promptly. However, things began taking shape earlier this year when Warner Bros. decided to fast-track this film and the hunt for a new director to replace David Ayer who will direct Gotham City Sirens instead of this sequel. It is another story that the Gotham City Sirens is also stuck in the development for a long time now. A few months back we had heard that the Suicide Squad would start filming in the fall of 2018 instead of summer. Therefore, this news about the film going into production in spring is highly surprising.
It seems that WB has found the ideal director in Gavin O’Connor who is also going to write the Suicide Squad 2. He came onboard recently, and it indicates that all is well in the initial stages of readying the film for production. In fact, even Jared Leto considers that Gavin will be the right guy to direct the film.
At present, there is no information about the film’s cast or storyline. However, we believe that Margot Robbie will return to reprise her role of Harley Quinn. Leto hasn’t yet confirmed whether he will play Joker again in Suicide Squad 2. However, he has stated that he is still connected to the character. Besides this sequel, he might next be seen in Gotham City Sirens or the underdevelopment Joker/Harley Quinn solo. Now that, filming is set to start in spring next year, Suicide Squad is the front-runner to arrive first on the big screen.
