Stan Lee has created some of the most famous and amazing superheroes of all time. Stan is not just a famous comic book writer of the past; his personality has become a worldwide phenomenon, thanks to his cameos in Marvel movies.
If you are following the News, you may have read that Stan Lee’s wife of 7 decades, Joan Lee had passed away after she had a stroke. Joan Lee was a model when she met with Stan, and as Stan Lee puts it, “The moment I saw her, I instantly fell in love with her. I even proposed her, it was odd, but that started our journey together.”
Joan has done the necessary voice-over for the character Madame Web in the legendary 90’s Spider-man animated series. That series is considered as one of the best comics to animation adaptation of Spiderman. Joan also did a small cameo in X-Men Apocalypse alongside Stan-The-Man-Lee. Joan and Stan Lee shared a powerful bond, and in an interview Joan was asked, “Who is the best looking man you’ve ever seen?”, She said “Stan Lee,” like it was a fact for her. The love between Stan and Joan will give you some serious “Relationship Goals’. You can watch her fascinating, candid interview below where she reveals, how it was living with a comic book legend Stan Lee.
Joan was a big part of Stan Lee’s life, and she influenced his work profoundly. There was a point where the creators wanted Stan to create more “Action” focused comic books with fewer dialogues. If you are a comic book reader, you would understand that those dialogue panels are the only way character building is done in comics.
Stan knew that reducing the conversations will make the characters shallow and in the long run, his creations would perish. But he was being forced to eliminate the talks; this order from higher up the food chain was suffocating him mentally, and he almost decided to quit the job at Marvel. He didn’t want to do work at a place where his creativity was stifled to death.
He talked about this with his wife Joan, she advised him that “you are anyway going to drop this job, why don’t you create your last comics in this organization the way you wanted, and if it doesn’t work, you have the leeway to resign and move on.” Stan thought it was a great idea, and he created the “Fantastic Four.” That issue was a massive hit, and then rest is history. Here’s the video of the full interview, where he told this sweet little story of his life. It’s a fantastic talk, listen to it:-
Just imagine, what would have happened if Stan had resigned from Marvel? Last year, Stan Lee’s health condition was not good, and now he has faced the biggest personal loss of his life. We are not at all ready to lose this gem.
