Yes, it is hard to believe that everyone’s favorite show, Game of Thrones is almost coming to an end. The series created by David Benioff and Dan Weiss is based on the novels, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. It became the most popular television show and HBO’s biggest hit series ever. Game of Thrones showed the world a new complex storytelling style and gave a cinematic feel to television. In short, it changed everything about television.
Now that the seventh season has ended let us look beyond the coming winter and spring and towards the unscheduled premiere of Game of Thrones season 8.
FANS WILL SEE SEASON 8 IN 2018
Season 8 is planned to have six episodes and is the shortest season. However, the final six episodes may be longer than just one hour. Season 8 does not start shooting till fall 2017. However, at least one of the Game of Thrones stars is looking forward to the series coming to an end.
NO MORE DORNE
Season 7 has wrapped up stories of many ancillary characters including some from secondary Great Houses of Westeros. Season 6 ended with House Tyrell doomed after deaths of Margaery and Loras, leaving elderly Lady Olenna Tyrell as the last living member of House Tyrell.
Dorne, the Seventh Kingdom, looks like I will not be revisited in season 8. The last of Ellaria Sand was seen when she was chained in the cells of Red Keep by Cersei and was forced to watch her daughter Tyene die from poisoning.
THE GREAT WAR
Many fans had expected to see a Great War against the Night King and the White Walkers in season 7 but it concluded with the armistice in the war going on in Westeros between Cersei Lannister and Daenerys Targaryen.
So, we can expect more people, including more of our main characters to die during the war with Night King.
JON AND DAENERYS LEARN THE TRUTH
Season 7 finally gave a definitive answer to Jon Snow’s parentage. Jon lived his life believing that he was a bastard son of Ned Stark but he was born as Aegon Targaryen, the son of Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. And he is the heir to the Iron Throne.
We can learn more mysterious of the past of Rhaegar and Lyanna, the tournament at Harrenhal and why Jojen and Meera Reed were sent as help Bran become the Three Eyed Raven.
CERSEI AND JAIME
The rift between the Lannister twins has been boiling for a long time, and now it seems irreconcilable. Jaime Lannister has grown a conscience while his sister has become more malevolent. Cersei’s plot to keep her grip on the Iron Throne proves her to be treacherous.
What will happen to the Lannister twins? Whatever it is, it will have an impact on the future of the Seven Kingdoms.
THE GOLDEN COMPANY
Cersei paid off Lannisters’ debt to Iron Bank in season 7 and sent Euron Greyjoy to Essos to hire the Golden Company which is the greatest army of mercenaries.
Cersei wants to take revenge on Sansa Stark, and Tyrion Lannister whom she believes is responsible for the death of her father and her son, Joffrey. Can the Golden Company be sent to bring back the former for her revenge?
WHAT HAPPENED TO YARA?
Dreams of Yara Greyjoy to become Queen were sunk by her uncle, Euron. He annihilated her Fleet in season 7 and took her prisoner. Yara was last seen by the fans tied to a horse and dragged around King’s Landing.
Euron has emerged as Game of Thrones‘ latest villain after Ramsay Bolton in season 6. Euron wanted to marry Cersei and become King of the Seven Kingdoms.
HOW WILL MELISANDRE DIE IN WESTEROS?
The red priestess and conflicted follower, Melisandre still has one more season in Game of Thrones. She was banished from North by Jon Snow and Davos Seaworth.
Will Melisandre be certain that Jon Snow is the real Prince Who Was Promised and find solace in knowing that she helped to bring him into the light?
ARYA AND SANSA’S FUTURE?
Littlefinger died as Sansa and Arya Stark teamed up to kill him.And this put an end to Westeros’ great manipulator.
Will Sansa survive and rule Winterfell when the heritage of Jon Snow is revealed? Will Arya continue to be an assassin? The Stark sisters have grown to become fan favorites.
THE CLEGANEBOWL
Fans have awaited the big brawl between the brothers Clegane fo many years. The Hound is on a journey since abandoning the Lannisters and fleeing King’s Landing. The Mountain has been Cersei’s bodyguard after being killed by Oberyn and resurrected by Qyburn.
The season 7 finale allows just one exchange between the brothers and this hints that season 8 will be about how the Hound kills his brother.
A DREAM OF SPRING
The final six episodes will have to show the fates of Davos Seaworth, Gendry, Beric Dondarrion, Podrick Payne, and Varys.
Will Grey Worm survive? Will Sam Tarly live happily with Gilly and Sam? Will Tormund Giantsbane live his dream of making giant children with Brienne of Tarth?
It will be sad when Game of Thrones comes to an end. But the series has taught us; all TV shows must die.
