The production stories of Justice League have made the film’s behind the scenes happenings as intriguing as the film is likely to be itself. The ongoing DCEU creative revamp has made the film undergo several changes already, but, the churning process might not be over yet. The project is in its final stages, but, now we hear that Zack Snyder might make a comeback to give finishing touches to the project that he had started. This makes us wonder whether Snyder needs to make a comeback or whether there is any truth in these rumors?
The premise of the latest news piece is that Zack had left the project earlier this year due to the unfortunate event of his daughter’s suicide and he might now join it back to give the finishing touches to the film. It’s already known that Joss Whedon took over as Justice League director once Snyder moved away in early summer (the film’s credits still mention Snyder) and it is also well known that WB had to spend a sizeable amount to make adjustments to the film. But, if this rumor is indeed true then Snyder will be the one who will see the project through to theaters and oversee the film’s promotional campaign reach its full speed.
This rumor which has surfaced on Reddit is not easy to decipher, but, we are not taking it lying down. The film is scheduled to release on November 17, leaving little time for Joss Whedon to give the finishing touches to the film. There can’t be any further scope of creative alterations for Warner Bros. if Zack Snyder comes back.
The film has already been in the news for the changes in the tone and narrative of the film that supposedly took place in Snyder’s absence. As informed earlier, the Justice League has acquired a lighter tone under Joss Whedon that includes a not so thrilling ending. This gives the impression of the film no longer being the project conceived by Snyder – irrespective of his name showing up as the director in the credits. The only thing that Snyder can do upon come back is to appear on forums, give interviews and face the media bravely, rather than giving any further directorial touches to Justice League.
Also, we shouldn’t overlook the fact that Zack Snyder has already started moving away from DCEU. After he had left Justice League, several reports indicated that Zack and Deborah Snyder will have much diminished influence over the future of the franchise. Going forward, newcomers on the scene such as Matt Reeves (The Batman), Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) who is also set to direct Wonder Woman 2 and Joss Whedon who is now going to be in charge of Batgirl as well, will be taking care of the upcoming solo movies from DC.
At the same time, the fact that DCEU has never really followed the typical franchise pattern also stands out. There have been some significant and previously unheard obstacles that came Justice League’s way when it comes to making a superhero film. Therefore, nobody can really tell what all might happen between now and November 17. Common sense says that Zack Snyder can’t make too much of an impact on the film with such a little time left before it hits the screens, but, then the unpredictability of DCEU rules nothing out.
As of now, Joss Whedon is the man who is directing Justice League and it remains to be seen whether this is how things remain or not on November 17, 2017.
