The much awaited Avengers: Infinity War trailer has finally been released, and it has shown a great deal of the movie’s plot and the interaction that will take place among the various characters. But, this is not the only piece of footage that Marvel has showcased so far. During the summer, Marvel had unveiled exclusive Infinity War footage at Comic-Con International in San Diego as well as the D23 Expo, and although, quite a bit of it was seen in this trailer, some scenes are missing.
Thor Meeting The Guardians
The trailer ended with Thor talking to the Guardians of the Galaxy. However, the earlier trailer had shown a detailed look at how they met. In that version, the Guardians had found Thor’s body floating in space and slamming the windshield. Rocket then told Peter Quill to use the wipers as if he thought Thor was a bug.
Apparently, that’s what happened to Thor after the Ragnarok events, when the Asgardian refugees were waylaid by Thanos and his army. The Guardians take him to Milano and Mantis used her power to wake him up. That’s when the scene took place that was shown at the end of the official trailer when Thor asked them about their identity. It also clarifies the location of Odin’s son during the opening monologue of the trailer.
The noticeable thing here is that the earlier trailer didn’t show Thor missing an eye. That might have been done to prevent Thor: Ragnarok’s spoilers and now that the film is released, they can show the real thing.
All Hands On The Deck
The official trailer is primarily emphasizing on the main Avengers team as the other characters revolve around them. The key moment comes when Captain America assembles the heroes of the earlier movies in a huge slow-motion race toward the camera, but, where are the others? If this has to be a crossover movie then what about the crossover?
The footage shown at San Diego Comic-Con/D23 Expo had elaborated on that and featured the characters from various MCU movies being seen in a single frame. The scenes might not be crucial, but, to see everyone stand side-by-side gives strong credence to the connectivity of the universe.
The footage that the official trailer didn’t show, we had seen Peter Quill, and Stephen Strange fighting Thanos and Quill was hopping across magical platforms created by Strange. There was another sequence showing the Guardians and Avengers in one place, and it had Quill, Drax and Mantis flank Iron-Man and Spider-Man.
What is That Circular Device?
The official Infinity War trailer showed a gigantic circular device floating over the city. It made hair rise on Peter Parker’s arm, and then we saw Thor and Spider-Man attempt to destroy it. We have no idea what it is or what its name is, but, the earlier footage at SDCC/D23 Expo had given more hints about what it could be used for.
We saw the device moving, and the earlier footage showed the wreckage of the device falling on Earth and the burning wreckage on the ground. One premise is that it might be a portal like the one that Erik Selvig had built during the first Avengers movie which ultimately caused the Chitauri invasion. Just that this one is safer.
The way the heroes were desperate to break this device, it could be that the invaders seen in the trailer were coming out of this device or other devices similar to it.
What Will Be Vision’s Fate?
We all know that Vision is in grave danger because Thanos is chasing the Infinity Stones and the Mind Stone is fixed in his head. The trailer showed the painful scenario when Thanos and his team came to get the Stone. Irrespective of Vision’s survival or death after that, the earlier footage gave us more idea about his Infinity War part.
In the older trailer, there was a quick visual of a jailed Vision. What it’s meaning is not clear, but, we can try guessing. Since Wanda is generally seen in sequences where Vision is present, it is apparent that their bond will be impacted by the movie’s incidents.
The thought of a jailed Vision with the Mind Stone taken away, it could be possible that Wanda would try to save him from Thanos or considering the visuals of her fighting on the streets, she is trying to protect his life.
The Might of Thanos
Thanos will surely get the Power Stone and the Space Stone during the run of the movie. Although there are four more to go, he still displays incredible powers. He can teleport and knocks out Iron-Man with a single punch, but, we saw more of his powers in the earlier footage.
The previous trailer ended with Thanos using the Infinity Gauntlet to grab some space debris and smash it into the Earth below and causing extreme destruction in the process. Just imagine the kind of things he would do with all the stones.
The Death of Spider-Man?
This trailer also doesn’t feature a scene from the earlier version where we had seen a Peter Parker, devoid of the mask lying flat and offering apologies to Tony Stark who is beside him and it is very much possible that those were the final moments of the Spider-Man.
Stay Around For A Minute
In the official trailer, one scene shows Thanos brutally attacking Spider-Man and smashing him into the ground. Could this kill him? It might be the reason why Tony Stark looked so forlorn in the scenes where he was without the costume. We see him sitting and crying in one visual and walk out on the other heroes in a different scene. Stark is apparently lost, and it might have been Peter’s death that killed his spirit to continue fighting.
Although a lot of fans would prefer seeing Peter moving into the future with Miles Morales replacing him, Sony hasn’t hinted at such a possibility. Tom Holland has a contract for many more Spider-Man movies, and then there is the fourth Avengers film which will be followed by the Spider-Man solo sequel. The other possibility is that he might die in the Infinity War, but, get revived in the next movie courtesy the powers of a full strength Infinity Gauntlet.
A Joe and Anthony Russo directorial venture, Avengers: Infinity War from Marvel stars Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Samuel L.
