Do you remember Jessica from Bong Jung-Hoo’s multiple Academy Award winning options? Jessica was played by Park So-dam, a Korean actress who was initially rejected multiple times in her auditions during her early years as a struggling actress.
Park So-dam was born in South Korea on September 8, 1991. She holds a South Korean nationality. Interested in acting from an early age when she first saw the musical drama Grease she went on to graduate from Korea National University of Arts.

With Parasite, So-dam gained international recognition, as the film created history by sweeping the Academy Awards, most notably as the first Foreign Language Film to win the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Her performance in the film was lauded for its fierce and fiery spirit, and created a sensation for her “Jessica from Illinois” poem in the movie. For her work, she received the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast along with cast members Hye-jin Jang, Yeo-jeong Jo, Woo-sik Choi, Hyun-jun Jung, and Ji-so Jung.

Before Parasite, So-dam’s feature film roles include performances in One, The Silenced, The Priests and Man of Will. She also worked extensively in television where her credits include My First Time, A Beautiful Mind and Cinderella with Four Knights.

Her breakout performance would be in the mainstream movie, The Silenced, for which she went on to win the Best Supporting Actress Award at Busan Film Critics Awards. So-dam also gave voice for the movie The Underdog that was subsequently released in 2018.

She has also won two Blue Dragon Awards for the performances in the The Priest and Parasite respectively. The actress is slated to appear in the 2020 film Special Praise. According to reports, she has a net worth around $200,000, as of 2020. She currently resides in Busan, South Korea.
