The impact of Disney’s money-making calls continues.

There is fresh news about Rian Johnson (The Last Jedi) being entrusted with the task of creating a brand new Star Wars trilogy, and also the live-action series based in that far, far away galaxy. There is further evidence that Marvel’s characters such as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, etc. might be taken off Netflix and relaunched on Disney’s upcoming streaming platform in 2019.

It is going to be a member service being seen as a direct competitor to Netflix, and the CEO Bob Iger said today that the subscription would be much below Netflix’s current starting point of $10.99. Therefore, it is understandable that Disney would want its best properties to be on its platform only.

Irrespective of the shift of its current content base, The Wall Street Journal confirmed that the fresh Marvel series would be streamed through Disney’s own streaming platform and observing, “while [Disney] currently produces Marvel superhero series such as ‘Daredevil’ for Netflix, new Marvel shows in the future are expected to live on the company’s own streaming service.”

Agreed that the quote is not clearly stating about the future of the current Marvel lineup on Netflix and we think further details will take time to come out. Last time we had reported that Disney had started talks to buy 21st Century Fox’s entertainment business including the licenses of X-Men and Fantastic Four and follow up reports have come about the Mouse House wanting to put all its characters under one roof.

While there are not many details available about the deal, but, this report about Disney’s mega plans have come courtesy The Wall Street Journal.

While the release dates for any of the projects has not been announced, and no mention of the Rian Johnson’s Star Wars trilogy which is expected to get moving in 2020, however, we will update you once we get further details.

At present Marvel is readying to launch The Punisher and has set November 17th as the premiere date of the Frank Castle solo show.
