The home video release for Marvel’s latest movie, Black Panther may contain some deleted scenes, as composer, Ludwig Goransson says that he scored a 4-hour cut of this movie. Black Panther has the longest cut for debut stand-alone film in the MCU. Considering how much this he story takes on, from the mystery of Wakanda to establishing an ensemble, to creating MCU’s best villains, we know that Ryan Coogler had a whole lot to juggle with.

Though the Black Panther movie has started the reign at the box office, the studio is eyeing on a home video release. The Black Panther Blu-ray SteelBook art had been revealed, and it teased what the fans can expect when this movie hits DVD/Blu-Ray.

During an interview with Ludwig Goransson about the experience of scoring this movie, a surprising revelation had been made:

“I remember the first director’s cut was four hours long, but I already had a lot of material written and recorded. So, I actually scored the four-hour cut of the film. Which is really great.”

It is not a shock that so much footage is there as Coogler shot much more than he would use to cut things down to the perfect story. The surprising thing is that Goransson had worked on the 4-hour cut instead of waiting until things had whittled down. It is also possible that Coogler had wanted the scope of this movie before the creative team edited it the as music played a vital role.

Goransson then added:

“Having a great relationship with Ryan means I’m able to start on the film’s score very early. I went to West Africa and South Africa before they started shooting, just to do research. When I came up with Killmonger’s theme, I hired a great fula player to record it. I was able to send all those recordings to Michael B., which helped him prepare for the role.”

If individual character themes had been used to help the actors with this movie, then it is surely not surprising that Coogler and the crew wanted the music in place before they had developed the movie’s final cut. This that there is a lot of footage that is complete and may make it onto the home video release.
