She is the daughter of a retired Air Force Chief Mechanic, Bill Tweeden, and his wife, Catherine. Leeann is Filipino from her mother’s side. She attended Osbourn Park High School, from where she graduated in 1991. After her high school graduation, Tweeden relocated to Hollywood, Los Angeles, to pursue a modeling career.

Leeann was working as a hostess at the Hooters restaurant in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in 1992. She participated in the Venus International Model Search at that time and came in first in the competition. The win led her to garner a national exposure.
