In 1936 her initial film appearance as a contract player for MGM was in the short Every Sunday. Her other early films comprised Pigskin Parade and Broadway Melody of 1938, in which she sang “You Made Me Love You.” That was the first of many trademark songs.

She formed a partnership with Mickey Rooney in Thoroughbreds Don’t Cry (1937); the pairing maintained through Love Finds Andy Hardy (1938), Babes on Broadway (1941), and Girl Crazy (1943). Garland appeared in five more films, comprising Judgment at Nuremberg (1961), for which she received an Oscar nomination.

Her professional film career has long overshadowed her success as a recording artist. From 1936 to 1947, Judy cut more than 90 tracks for Decca Records. She created a dozen record albums for Capitol Records between 1955 and 1965.

In the 1960s, Garland often occurred on television, presenting a weekly hour-long variety series, The Judy Garland Show, for 26 episodes during the 1963–64 seasons. Garland maintained working life until her death at the age of only 47 by accidental barbiturate overdose. She died on 22nd June 1969, in London, England.
