3. Jim Ross
Ol’ J.R. was making a name for himself as an announcer working for Jim Crockett Promotions, the National Wrestling Alliance and WCW. This was before he achieved wrestling fame with WWE and also before he came to be known for creating barbecue sauces. The legendary mic worker, Jim Ross and the WWE have had an awkward and sometimes testy relationship over the years. But the fact that he is no longer with WWE does in no way mean that Ross is done with the mic for good. He has taken on multiple projects since his WWE days. He has announced on mixed martial arts shows and also for a New Japan Pro Wrestling event.
2. Terry Funk
If you have been following his career then it shouldn’t come as a surprise to you that Terry Funk is still wrestling at the age of 71 years. His longevity is absolutely mind-boggling and awe-inspiring. Funk and Jerry “The King” Lawler were scheduled to face off inside of a wrestling ring in USA Championship Wrestling, in Jackson Tennessee in end of October 2015.That was the retirement match for the hardcore icon who helped put Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) on the map.
1. Jake Roberts
If you are a true wrestling fan, the type who keeps tab on the stars, chances are that you are at least familiar about the personal battles that Jake “The Snake” Roberts has been fighting for over the decades. The master of the “DDT” finishing move has been fighting his drug habits. He has been downed by his demons time and time again but he has managed to get back on his feet. Roberts credits this to Diamond Dallas Page. The DDP Yoga program has been of a great help to him in staying clean. A documentary on his struggle, by the name “The Resurrection of Jake Roberts” is a positive story about one of the greatest wrestling stars of the 80s. We sincerely hope that the story has a happy ending.
