Hedy had been married six times. She adopted a boy named James in 1939 while being married to her second husband – Gene Markey. Hedy gave birth to Denise in 1945 and Anthony in 1947, when she was married to her third husband – John Loder – who also adopted James. She became a naturalized US citizen in 1953. During her later years, she lived a reclusive life in Casselberry. She died on January 19, 2000, at the age of 85.
