It is not unknown for TV stars to date each other in real life. In fact, some shows made more headlines due to their off-screen gossips instead of the show itself. What started as a trend among teen shows (like on Disney and Nickelodeon) soon became common in adult shows like Vampire Diaries (that had seven real-life couples). However, one show tops it all.
Game Of Thrones is undoubtedly the biggest show ever. It is the best in many different categories, including the dating scenario. Of course, we expected no less from a show that had slightly *ahem* unconventional love stories of every sort. Once in a while, true love develops in the story, only to die a painful death few episodes later. But amidst all that, some have found true love, while others at least tried. Here are some off-screen couples from the show Game of Thrones:
1) Kit Harrington and Rose Leslie
After the huge reveal that Jon Snow was alive, Kit Harrington left no stones unturned for the promotion of the show, which involved talking heavily about his personal life. In one such interview with Vogue, Kit confessed about his relationship with former co-star Rose Leslie since 2012. Interestingly, the couple was also in love on the show, where Leslie portrayed the wildling Ygritte.
Here is Kit reminiscing his best memory with Rose:
“The three weeks in Iceland when we were shooting the second season. Because the country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights are magical, and because it was there that I fell in love. If you’re already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest [on] the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love…”
2) Kit Harrington and Emilia Clarke
The fans always rooted the two heartthrobs of the show, yet somehow the love story never manifested itself. However, the two did admit of going out with each other often. In talks with GQ, Emilia shared:
It’s always been funny going out with Kit, because he’s so recognizable. We went to a[n] FKA Twigs gig and it was mental. I went to the loo and in the cubicle on either side the girls were like, ‘That’s Jon Snow out there! Don’t know who that random girl is…'”
3) Emilia Clarke and Richard Madden
Okay, we admit, this was purely made up by the fans. After Kit and Emilia made it clear that they were not dating, the fans turned their hopes towards the new Stark patriarch. Yet, we never got any confirmation regarding the two.
4) Nell Tiger Free & Dean Charles Chapman
The two portray siblings Myrcella and TommenBaratheon on the show. However, since incest means nothing in Game of Thrones, we shouldn;t be surprised that the two were dating in real life. In fact, their teen love story was cuter than most others we saw on-and-off screen.
5) John Bradley & Hannah Murray
Perhaps the most lovable couple on the show, everyone roots for SamwellTarly and Gilly. It is only natural that we wanted the pair to date in real life too. While our prayers went unanswered for long, it appears that the two finally started going out last year.
6) Lena Headey and Pedro Pascal
Even before Pedro Pascal made the much-loved cameo as Oberyn Martell, he was linked with Lena Headey. Though the only source we have is their Instagram posts, it is clear that the two had something between them closer than a work-relation.
7) Lena Headey & Jerome Flynn
Amidst all the happy endings, we have this. It is a well-publicised trivia about the show, how Lena and Jerome made sure that both of them are never on the sets at the same time. Directors had to craft the episodes so that the two are in different scenes even when they are at the same location.
It is worth noting that the due dated each other back in 2002, and ended on such bitter terms that they are not willing to even look at each other after 15 years. Here is what a GOT crew member had to say:
“Jerome and Lena aren’t on speaking terms anymore and they are never in the same room at the same time. It’s a pity because they appeared to have patched things up for a while, but now the word is they should be kept apart at all costs.”
8) Ignacio Blanco & Rosie Mac
Your first reaction might be “Who?” and it is understandable. The two were not part of the cast, but play body-doubles to Daenerys and Dario and began dating soon after. In Ignacio’s words: “Rosie and I met on set.Me doing my part as Daario’s double and Rosie doing her part as Daenerys. Since then we’ve become very close. Things just kept escalating.”
