Shazam! has recently found Billy Batson a new friend. Deadline has reported It star, Jack Dylan Grazer has joined the movie as Freddy, “Batson’s best friend and is the only person who knows the truth about Shazam.” Grazer’s past credits are Me, Myself& I, Tales of Halloween, Comedy Bang! Bang! and many more. He is set to join Asher Angel, who will play Billy Batson; Zachary Levi, who will appear as Batson’s Shazam and Mark Strong, who will play Doctor Sivana.
Batson is the alter ego of the adult superhero who, after speaking the word, Shazam, is granted powers of the gods Solomon (wisdom), Hercules (strength), Atlas (stamina), Zeus (power), Achilles (courage) and Mercury (speed). He can transform back and forth by uttering the wizard’s name, which includes a bolt of lightning reigning down from the sky.
In the comics, Billy has a friend named Freddy Freeman, who is imbued with superpowers and joins the Marvel family. For some time, Freddy became Shazam! after Billy had transferred his powers to save his friend’s life. He operated under the name Captain Marvel Jr.
Set to shoot from February in Toronto, Ontario, the DECU movie was intended to star Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as Shazam! foe Black Adam.
Directed by David F. Sandberg and written by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemk, Shazam! stars Zachary Levi as Shazam, Asher Angel as Billy Batson and Mark Strong as the villain Doctor Sivana. Grace Fulton has been cast for an unknown role. The movie is scheduled to begin filming in February ahead of an April 5, 2019, release date.
