You will soon get to see one of the oldest villains ever to endanger the DC Universe when Kilgre debuts in Season 4 of The Flash.
Todd Helbing, the showrunner of The Flash recently spoke to CBR and said that Kilgre would come calling on Central City shortly and this tech-savvy alien will be a big threat to Barry Allen and Team Flash. Although The CW’s DCTVseries has marketed the Thinker to be the villain of the season, if they manage to portray Kilgre in a manner similar to the comic books, then he will be at least as deadly an opponent if not more.
While Helbing didn’t go into the details of the villain, he referred to him as “a lot of fun,” and fans must love to know this weird villain battle the Scarlet Speed guy of the comics. He has been described as an “electro-mechano-organic lifeform,” but, in fact, Kilgre is a sentient computer virus. He was first seen in Flash #3 that came out in 1987 as a joint creation of Mike Baron and Jackson Guice and took on the new Flash of those days aka Wally West.
He is an alien who ate up his former planet to satisfy its appetite for the electric-powered life organisms, Kilgre was initially not in sync with Earth’s planetary vibrations upon his arrival and could be seen only by those who moved at super-speed (The Flash of course). It was by mistake brought in sync with our reality after an encounter with Wally. Kilgre rapidly acclimatized to the new settings and became increasingly powerful as it broke into the power grid and endeavored to consume Earth just like it did to its planet of origin.
Wally ultimately prevails over Kilgre, however, over the years it returned many times. He went on to become a villain of epic proportions, and it was revealed that he was the reason behind Maxwell Lord creating Justice League International. Kilgre captured Lord’s brain and manipulated him so that its power increased throughout the planet after the creation of a high-tech superhero network globally.
In recent days, Kilgre was a part of the DC’s Rebirth Cyborg comic where he donned a huge robotic body and joined several other technology villains such as The Calculator and Gizmo.
The Fourth season of The Flash returned on Tuesday, October 10, at 8 p.m. ET/PT and it stars Grant Gustin, Candice Patton, Jesse L. Martin, Tom Cavanagh, Carlos Valdes, Danielle Panabaker and Keiynan Lonsdale.” Second episode of the season will be “Mixed Signals” to air on October 17.
