Her career took a new turn when she was cast in the 1948 romance film Romance on the High Seas. Being inspired to start a career in motion pictures, and she continued as an actress for the next 20 years.

Day began her journey as a musician as a vocalist on Carlin’s Carnival, a WLW radio program. In 1939 she started working for Barney Rapp with the stage name Doris Day. She had worked with Les Brown and released the songs “sentimental journey” and “My Dreams Are Getting Better All the Time.”

She appeared in films including Young Man with a Horn, Tea for Two, Lullaby of Broadway, On Moonlight Bay, April in Paris, Calamity Jane, Lucky Me, Love Me or Leave Me, Pillow Talk, The Ballad of Josie, With Six You Get Eggroll, etc. Her ‘The Doris Day Show’ ran for five seasons and got high popularity.

Besides her several nominations and awards, Day received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2004. The actress received a Grammy for Lifetime Achievement in Music in the year 2008 and received three Grammy Hall of Fame Awards. The Los Angeles Film Critics Association acknowledged her contributions with a Lifetime Achievement Award.
