The X-Men movies Colossus actor, Daniel Cudmore, is set to return to the franchise in X-Men: Dark Phoenix, but probably not in the way we expect.

Cudmore bowed out of the role as Colossus and handed it to Stefan Kapičić in Deadpool. An Instagram exchange in July hints that Cudmore was filming for X-Men: Dark Phoenix, and this leads to speculation and confusion.

Yesterday, when he was asked on Twitter about his role in the movie, Cudmore tweeted back,

“I can’t comment on what character I’m playing, sorry…”

Yes, Cudmore deflected the question, and his response seems to confirm that he is playing a role in X-Men: Dark Phoenix and it might not be Colossus.

The fan who was the first to tweeted Cudmore asked if he may be playing Gladiator. The original “Dark Phoenix Saga” features a showdown between X-Men and Imperial Guard on the moon, so it makes sense that Fox casts for Gladiator, who is the Guard’s leader.

If Fox is casting the Imperial Guard, Cudmore will find the character Neutron to fit better. Neutron is a heavy hitter and designed by Colossus co-creator Dave Cockrum. Colossus and Neutron share identical silhouettes and having Cudmore play the characters would be fun.

Fans have now assumed that the Imperial Guard would appear in X-Men: Dark Phoenix due to their involvement in the comic book story and it was also believed that Jessica Chastain will play Shi’ar Imperial MajestrixLilandra. But, Chastain has denied that she is playing Lilandra and Simon Kinberg’s comments on creating a grounded version of the “Dark Phoenix Saga” have left fans wondering if Shi’ar will appear in the movie.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is currently filming in Montreal. The film opens in theaters on November 2, 2018.
