May Glory be upon the king!
Black Panther’s record-shattering streak has already taken it to the third place in the list of highest grossing Marvel movies domestically, and there are no signs of it slowing down yet. Only The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, the two crown jewels of MCU are ahead of it as of now. However, the way Black Panther is charging ahead, it has a very good chance to overtake them and become the most profitable Marvel film domestically.
Black Panther’s current total after the first 11 days of running is $411,711,738 which makes it trail Avengers: Age of Ultron only by $47,294,130 to reach the second spot domestically. However, if Black Panther has to make it to the top spot, it needs to climb a mountain really.
The highest-grossing Marvel film (domestically) is the 2012 movie The Avengers, which netted a total of $623,357,910 during its cinematic run. Black Panther, therefore, needs to add another $211,646,172 before it can claim the top pedestal. The target is difficult, considering the way things slide down in second week onwards, but, not entirely impossible.
Currently running in theaters, Black Panther stars Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa, Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Daniel Kaluuya as W’Kabi, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaue, Winston Duke as M’Baku and Forest Whitaker as Zuri.
