Batman has been known for his classic outfit but in the upcoming Justice League movie, there will be 2 new suits Batman will wear.
The Classic Bat Suit
As Michael Wilkinson has explained, the suit that Bruce Wayne (Ben Affleck) wears for most parts of the Justice League movie will be a close variation from what we have seen in Batman v Superman. The costume department looks for an opportunity to tweak its suit’s design as technologies come into play. The photo is a close comparison we have found on the Web.
A major difference in the design of the Bat Suit was the addition of armor plates under the grey carbon-fiber mesh weave. It is pronounced in stomach and chest of Batman’s suit, and gives him more protection in battle. Wilkinson said:
“One new detail is that Zack wanted a little more sense of armor and deflection on his gauntlets when he is shot at, and so I designed these [gloves] that are kind of based on the samurai. We know from Bruce Wayne’s history that he studied martial arts in Japan, so I thought that could be appropriate. But we sort of modernized it with a Wayne Tech aesthetic here. It’s a little more aggressive.”
Wilkinson and his team designed a new cowl for Batman, though one may not notice the difference. It is implied that inside the cowl, there is a membrane and protective system. But it also with enhanced ways for Batman to communicate with Alfred and the Justice League. The inside is a mess of wires and gadgets that help Batman in crime-fighting.
But Batman is not facing human villains in Justice League. The antagonists are stepping up the game, and Bruce Wayne is developing a new suit.
The Tactical Bat Suit
No images have been released for this suit. Wilkinson refers to it as the Tactical Bat Suit as it offers “more protection,” and he also describes, for a human taking on Parademons and other-dimensional creatures like Steppenwolf.
This suit is different from Frank Miller-inspired suit in BvS, has much more armors than the Classic suit, yet it has layered in a way that the costume looks sleek. Wilkinson says that in a final act, Wayne realizes that he needs to “step up his game” and the tactical suit allows him to take on powerful forces.
A difference between the Classic and Tactical suits is the addition of Goggles that fans were once told that Batman will use to pilot his new vehicle but Wilkinson then stopped short of explaining which vehicle this would be. He tells us:
“We loved the way, in the comic books, that Batman’s always drawn with these white flashes for eyes. So we played around with ways of doing that, and realized that they would sort of catch the light, to call to mind that classic age from the comic books.”
We did learn that Batman will have a Nightcrawler vehicle and a team-transporting Flying Fox and it is possible that he may need the goggles to see where he’s he is going in one of the crafts.
