Don’t you dare call it water-logged!
James Wan who is directing the upcoming Aquaman film describes his film featuring the superhero from Atlantic as something similar to an underwater Star Wars, as per Ludi Lin, one of the supporting actors of the film
Lin stars in the movie as the right hand guy of the Aquaman and the leader of the Men-of-War army. He recently appeared on a Kiss Radio discussion about the tone of Aquaman, how his character is going to be different from the comics and how the film plans to pay homage to the comic books that it is sourced from. The most intriguing point of the discussion turned out to be Lin’s remarks on the vision that Wan has for the film.
When questioned about the way Wan is handling the project, Lin said: “The thing is, there is so much about Aquaman that I have seen so far in filming… there’s so much to this film. The difference between Aquaman and the other superheroes in the DC Universe, is that it exists almost in a different world. James Wan, our director, is amazing. He’s described his vision as ‘Star Wars underwater,’ because it is! All the physics are different, their weapons are different, and the characters are very unique. It’s just super cool.”
Till date, the film has suffered several setbacks which have affected the production, for example, the exit of the director and actors and rumors creating chaos about the narrative of the film. Therefore, the behind the scenes scenario has been anything, but, fluid. Wan had earlier suggested that this film’s production is not only challenging technically, but, complicated otherwise as well. The stars on the other hand keep praising the film.
The movie’s lead actor Jason Momoa told Digital Trends that Aquaman is going to be unprecedented and nothing like we have ever seen. “It’s going to be a world that you’ve never seen before, which is really cool. We went to space, we traveled all over different worlds, but we never went underwater,” the actor said, even making a similar Star Wars connection later on. “It’s just a really cool spin on what’s below and it uses a lot of great movies that I already love—whether that be Raiders of the Lost Ark to Star Wars to Lord of the Rings to Romancing the Stone.”
William Dafoe who plays Aquaman’s advisor NuidisVulka had pointed out similarities between Director Wan and Sam Raimi of the original Spider-Man trilogy fame, earlier this week.
“Wan’s enthusiasm reminds me, very much, of Sam Raimi’s enthusiasm,” Dafoe said.
Dafoe had worked with Raimi during the 2002 film wherein Dafoe portrayed Norman Osborne.”When I made Spider-Man with Sam Raimi, one of the most impressive things was that it didn’t feel like an industry film. It felt like a personal film. It felt like Sam Raimi was getting to fulfill a fantasy of his. He was so connected to that Spider-Man mythology that he really infused it with great love and great playfulness, and I love that. James Wan is very similar.”
He also went on to state that Wan “really knows exactly what he wants,” which is just the right quality that you must have when making a film as challenging as Aquaman.
Apart from Lin, Momoa, and Dafoe, the film features Nicole Kidman as Aquaman’s mother Atlanna, Temuera Morrison plays Aquaman’s father Tom, Amber Heard as his lady love Mera, Patrick Wilson is shown as his half-brother Orm or the Ocean Master, Michael Beach will be a part of a crew of pirates, Yahya Abdul-Mateen will be seen as the evil Black Manta and Dolph Lundgren as King Nereus.
By the sound of it, Aquaman seems to be another DC movie that will simply blow your minds upon its release on December 21, 2018.
