The young generation today is the same one who once clutched their teddies closer and hoped that the Dream Demon wouldn’t catch them. Well, it appears that people would have something to get nostalgic about. According to reports, New Line Cinema is all set to create a new version of “A Nightmare on Elm Street’.

We know that there was already a reboot back in 2010, and it was pathetic. Yet, it seems like the original creators are quite committed for recreating the magic (or horror) of Freddy Kruger. The entire reboot would be overseen by Toby Emmerich, Walter Hamada, and Dave Neutadter, while David Leslie Johnson would be writing the script.

Excited? Well, unfortunately, this information was first received exactly 2 years back. Since then, so little was heard about this project that people feared that the project was shelved. However, some new leaks were received just recently that is full of hope.

While we still don’t know the exact plot, cast or even the director, there is something else we heard. David F. Sandberg, the Swedish filmmaker who is considered the new genius of the horror genre (with films like Lights Out and Annabelle) recently spoke about the two franchises he would love to work with. One of them was A Nightmare on Elm Street.

“I’ve been thinking about what fun franchises New Line has like A Nightmare on Elm Street and Critters. Might be fun if you took something like that in a different direction from previous installments. Like instead of remaking Nightmare you do some continuation of it in the same world kind of thing.”

Now, Critters is largely a horror comedy – a genre Sandberg hasn’t tried his hands at. However, “Nightmare on Elm Street” is precisely the kind of horror movies Sandberg specializes in, and this has led our hopes to be high as the sky. As Sandberg said, he is trying to do something different with the franchises. Should we be worried or happy? “Happy” would be the more apt word, given Sandberg’s excellent track record. However, the debacle only seven years ago should be kept in mind while having another go at the franchise. One significant factor at play is the choice of lead actor. Since Freddie Kruger carries the movie single-handedly on his shoulders, choosing an actor who could justify the character is of paramount importance.

This new info was not significant in any way, but it gives the fans hope that a reboot of Nightmare on Elm Street is still alive. If Sandberg decides to join the project, all the more reason to rejoice.
