Mark Hamill will always be Luke. However, numerous other well-known performers from the 1970s auditioned for the part, including heartthrob Robby Benson and William Katt who was the Greatest American Hero himself!

4. A Nightmare on Tatooine
According to Robert Englund, you should thank him for Hamill getting the part. As it is, Englund and Hamill were flat mates some time ago and Englund says it was he who informed the future Skywalker about the gig. He says; “Mark was on my couch with a Heineken in one hand and a slab of cold pizza in the other. So, I said, ‘Mark, I think you might be right for this Luke Skywalker.’ He got on the phone and the rest was history.”
