5. Writer of Alien: Covenant – Damon Lindelof is not writing the screenplay
The master mind behind Lost took over the screen writing duties of Prometheus form Jon Spaihts. He then went on to transform the more traditional Alien story into an “original” science fiction concept. The fan boy backlash to this was so brutal that in the aftermath of Prometheus, Lindelof had completely bailed on the sequel.
Lindelof has been replaced by writers Jack Paglen of Transcendence and Michael Green infamous for the Green Lantern film. Michael Green is also instrumental in the forthcoming sequel to Blade Runner. Despite Green having a superhero deal on his resumèit is obvious that Scott trusts him with the reigns to his two science fiction wagons. Also John Logan, Scott’s Gladiator writer, seems to have a “re-written by” credit.
Alien: Covenant began filming in April 2016. Shooting locations are New Zealand and Australia and space cowboy Danny McBride announced in July that the film was in wrapping.
The film is scheduled to be released on 4 August 2017 in US and UK cinemas. It seems to be placed at the end of Summer Blockbuster season and slightly inches towards the awards season. This is probably because they are hoping for box office as well as critical acclaim.
