5. The Show Is Not Going To Be Episodic.
The original Xena show was episodic in nature, which means whatever they did in the previous episode would not have any consequential impact on the next episodes. But Grillo wants to change that by making it serialized, where we will see character development happening in a gradual way. He wants the audience to feel more invested in the characters rather than the original stories.
“One big thing is that we are telling a much more serialized story than the show ever tackled — so formally we are already treading some very different ground — and while the characters will occupy roughly the same thematic spaces they did in the original, some of their backstories will be changed, and some of their morality will be tweaked so that we can tell a long-arcing story in which every episode leads directly into the next.”
We all have seen Xena and Gabrielle getting attracted towards each other many a times, but it was never confirmed on the show that they might be lovers. According to me that time was not so welcoming for the LGBT communities, but in today’s world, Grillo can definitely mix something like that in the storyline. In one of the interviews with Screen Crush, he confirmed that he is considering that possibility during his writings. Only time will tell how this show will be received by the viewers!
