We have always been taking sides whether it is between Pepsi or Coke, Jelly or Butter, Japanese cars or German cars, Marvel vs. DC. These are dilemmas and battles that we have been facing since decades, and they will continue. To stoke the flames further, we have created this list that highlights five reasons that prove DC’s superiority over Marvel.
1. Villains Matter – Marvel is focusing on creating hero vs. hero stories whereas DC is working to get more villains for you. To be honest, Marvel villains are not long lasting. However, that’s now with DC villains. They will keep creating trouble relentlessly. Some people say that the New 52 is milder, but, we saw in We Are Robin that a lot of people were blown off point blank. In the world of DC heroes live, but, villains also live long to keep killing people around them.
2. Diversity – It is not denied that Marvel has made a lot of efforts to create a range of characters, but, DC’s roster is simply overflowing. They have even created a diversified range of writers, artists, and editors. They not only depend on big names but, let creativity run wild through their workshops. DC doesn’t keep issuing press releases over every tiny new development, but, they have created a lot of second level characters. The only difference is that they don’t go beating their drum around on such things.
3. Minimal Resets – Marvel keeps coming up with reboots annually, and you can see a full set of new #1s. DC either doesn’t do it or does it in a soft style. They don’t delete the previous books and reallocate the numbers. DC lets their stories flourish rather than aiming to wrap them up so that they can hit the reboot button again.
4. Multi-book stories – While Marvel creates events specific to one narrative or book, DC often comes up with multi-book stories. They might just create a Batman story that stretches across all Batman family books. Marvel struggles to do this kind of a thing. This also often means that the set of events in one book is not in sync with what’s happening in another. We might see Peter fighting with Tony Stark in Amazing Spider-Man, and at the same time, they have no scores to settle in Invincible Iron Man. While Marvel bases its comic books on chronology, DC takes care of a timeline thing.
5. No Movie Focus – It doesn’t mean that DC makes terrible films or they don’t focus on creating movies as Marvel does. We just mean that DC doesn’t tamper with the flow of a comic book story to make it suitable for the movie. DC didn’t cut down the Suicide Squad comics because they didn’t have the movie rights, just the thing that Marvel did with the Fantastic Four. DC is not killing the Flash’s villains just because they are money spinners and they are not using pressure tactics to get the Green Arrow rights back. On the other hand, Marvel is rapidly murdering X-Men and trying to replace them with mutants irrespective of the fact that X-Men is selling way better than the Inhumans.
It’s your choice to be on Marvel’s side, and not everyone will mock you on your face when you go out to buy an annual #1 or a Hawkeye issue that gets rebooted every year. Nothing wrong with liking Marvel, but, it is just that DC is far superior.
