Fans have been wondering about Batman’s existence in the CW/DC TV Universe. The answer is ‘Yes.’ Several times we have seen Batman being referred in the various seasons. There was an episode in Flash Season 2 which showed Barry visit Earth -2 to battle Zoom and we saw various names mentioned on his home phone’s speed dial list. One of those names was ‘Bruce Wayne.’ Besides that, the Flashpoint comic series by Geoff John was being modified for the Flash Season 3, and this one had Batman as a vital part of the narrative. The comic Legends of Tomorrow showed Captain Hunter say, “I have seen Men of Steel die and Dark Knights fall.” Then in Supergirl, Kara said, “My cousin worked with a vigilante once – tons of gadgets, lots of demons.”
The most direct reference to Batman came in Arrow when Felicity was code-named Overwatch because Oracle was taken. The show has shown Ra’s AhlGhul who is the comic book villain of Batman. The most recent Arrow episode showed Oliver Queen mention Bruce Wayne to protect himself from being alleged about being Green Arrow. The TV show Flash has openly referenced to Batman. Season 1 had an episode with a 2024 newspaper which showed Wayne Tech merging with Queen Consolidated. Season 4 had the episode ‘Mixed Signals’ where we saw the control panel for Barry’s latest suit which had an option ‘Babel Protocol.‘ We had seen in the Justice League of America comics and also in the Justice League: Doom animation film that ‘Babel Protocol’ was Batman’s creation. It was something he created out of mistrust for his team members, and it ultimately caused the defeat of Justice League by Ra’s Al Ghul in comic books and by Vandal Savage in the movie.
Below are four ways through which The Batman can properly be featured in Arrowverse:
Flashpoint 2.0:
There can be another event like Flashpoint in future seasons, and that can rope in Bruce Wayne into the alternate timeline. It will be an opportunity missed if DCEU doesn’t leverage its biggest superhero to the max. In another timeline, it could be possible that his parents didn’t get murdered and he was not even Batman.
Nightwing Solo show:
DC is attempting to create solo shows based on the sidekicks and various other important comic book characters as Birds of Prey. A Nightwing series which shows Dick Grayson emerge out of Batman’s shadows to become a hero on his own would be a great idea. Bloodhavenhas got several references on Arrow. Therefore, this one won’t be difficult, and it will eventually introduce Batman into this universe.
Flash Newspaper:
There could be an article in a newspaper on The Flash which talks about Wayne Enterprises. Bruce Wayne might then visit Star City to finalize a business deal, and this might be a cover for his chase of someone like Riddler or maybe Two-Face who are on the run after escaping Gotham jail and have teamed up to beat the Batman.
Gotham-Arrow Crossover:
The most plausible way is to create a crossover event in Arrowverse which merges Gotham TV show and the CW’s Arrow.
