12 Unknown Facts About Darth Vader.

8. DAVID PROWSE UNAWARE THAT HIS VOICE WOULD BE REPLACED

David Prowse is the body on-screen character of Darth Vader in the first trilogy. At six feet and five inches, this British towered over his co-stars. Amid A New Hope, Prowse believed that he was the voice of the villain.

In the wake of finding that his voice had been replaced with that of James Earl Jones, Prowse was frustrated to the point that he quit learning his lines for The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Rather, he would improvise lines, at times talking complete babble, compelling his co-stars to react as though he had said the right line.

7. PROWSE AND LUCAS DO NOT GET ALONG

Prowse’s voice being replaced was clearly one of numerous disputes between Prowse and Lucas. Prowse was further replaced by the fight choreographer Bob Anderson, who wore Darth Vader’s suit in Episode V and Episode VI to depict Vader battling. Prowse claims that he was replaced to give a more experienced warrior a chance to do his tricks. However, bits of gossip imply that it was because he continued breaking the prop lightsabers by swinging them a bit too hard. Furthermore, Prowse criticized giving Sebastian Shaw a role as Darth Vader’s face in The Return of the Jedi.

Indeed, even in the wake of recording, Prowse kept on criticising Lucas. He even claimed that he had not been sufficiently paid for Return of the Jedi. Their fight at last prompted a confrontation that got Prowse banned from all Lucas film events, including official conventions.
