8. Yoda’s Speech in Antique and Earthly.
Yoda has lived long, and he might have drunk gallons of Cantina ale; however, that’s not the real reason for his messed up grammar in his speech. A majority of the languages are spoken in the order of Object, Subject and verb format, and even the kids talk like that in their early years. Although, the English language changes that law as it gets more sophisticated. That’s a logical reason why Yoda’s English sounds erratic because he still follows the norms that other modern 20,000 languages utilize.
Why English ever ended up switching the orders of objects and subjects and verbs is a mystery for Yoda. He’ll learn someday. Maybe.
7. Frank Oz as Yoda Was Not the First Choice
Right from the get-go, Frank Oz was Yoda as we know. He was the puppeteer, he performed his lines on set and controlled his movements, and he was so damn brilliant at that. It came as a shocker when I discovered that he was not George Lucas’s first choice. The story goes that Oz sent Lucas a tape of his planned voice for Yoda which got rejected by Lucas. Lucas was quite sure in his mind that he doesn’t want to cast Oz and he even went ahead and conducted an audition for the voice of Yoda.
Eventually, the complete turnaround came when all who turned out for the tryout failed to impersonate Yoda the way Lucas wanted. Once Oz’s voice was selected and once the movie became a huge success, Lucas liked it so much that he felt it deserved an Oscar. He spent thousands of dollars on an Oscar campaign to get Oz nominated for Best Supporting Actor, but that amounted to nothing as they felt that a puppeteer is not an actor. Shame on Oscar.
