A New York Times author has now tossed her name into writing Warner Bros.’ Batgirl. A few hours after it had been announced that Joss Whedon exited this project, Bad Feminist author, Roxane Gay had offered to take over:

“Hey DC Comics,” she had tweeted, “I can write your Batgirl movie, no prob.”

She is one of the female writers who has expressed their interest in this movie and has joined Emily Andras and Gail Simone. Gay seems to be the first to get a public response from the people at Warner Bros. Michelle Wells, the vice president at Warner Bros. Entertainment told her to send her an email.

The report about Whedon’s departure had suggested that Warner Bros. might be searching for a woman as a replacement.

Gay had released Hunger and is no stranger to comic books.

After Justice League had failed to perform, the studio has tried to rebuild the DC Comics-based film slate and is bringing new executives for projects. Warner Bros. has announced that they hired Chantal Nong as their vice president of production of the DC film group.
