The Dark Knight Isn’t Too Dark After All: Ben Affleck Took Up The Role Of Batman To Make His Son Happy

Ben Affleck has recently revealed why he chose to take the role of Batman in Justice League and Batman v. Superman. The reason is heart-warming, and it is all for his son. Though there are rumors, that Ben Affleck is considering dropping the role after Justice League or the upcoming stand-alone Batman movie, the Oscar-winning actor and director took this role just to please his son.

According to Ben Affleck, he just wanted to impress his son when he signed on to take up the role of this Caped Crusader. Affleck wanted his child to see him as a superhero. Affleck’s five-year-old boy with ex-wife, Jennifer Garner, was enamored with another member of the Justice League.

During an interview on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Affleck had explained:

“Literally the reason I took this movie was imagining that, you know, wearing that costume and — I have a little boy — having my son see me. You know? Everybody wants their kid to think of them as a superhero before they get too smart. And I brought a picture to show you. Two weeks ago my son asked me, ‘Dad there’s one costume I want in the whole wide world. Can you get it for me?’”

Affleck had revealed a picture of his son wearing a costume of The Flash. Kimmel said that Affleck’s child would make a pretty good Robin, judging by the superhero pose.

It is a cute story. It is gratifying to see Affleck have fun with the role of Batman and how it impacts his life outside of the movie. Even if there are rumors that Affleck’s time in the cape and cowl is going to end, it has been rare to see Affleck talk positively about being Batman.

Affleck’s dour attitude in previous press appearances may not be his fault. Affleck’s DCEU debut was in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice which was a dour movie. Batman is a grim character, but there is no reason for Affleck to be as dark while promoting the movie.
