It seems likely that we would soon be drowned with the Star Wars fever. Apart from the already anticipated The Last Jedi, the announcement for a spin-off based on Obi-Wan Kenobi was accompanied by the news of another famous Star Wars character: Jabba the Hutt.

At first, it might seem like an improbable choice. Fans were expecting to see spin-offs based on characters like Yoda or Boba Fett. However, after putting in more thoughts, a movie on Jabba the Hutt doesn’t seem that weird anymore.

Jabba belonged to a crime family whose operations spanned over an entire galaxy. He dealt with both Rebels and Imperial forces while being the most infamous smuggler of his times. On top of that, we know that his base of operations is filled with strange and exciting characters. We saw some of them in the book “Tales from Jabba’s Palace,” but there is potential to create some more.

Here is the synopsis from the book:

“In the dusty heat of twin-sunned Tatooine lives the wealthiest gangster in a hundred worlds, master of a vast crime empire and keeper of a vicious, flesh-eating monster for entertainment (and disposal of his enemies). Bloated and sinister, Jabba the Hutt might have made a good joke—if he weren’t so dangerous. A cast of soldiers, spies, assassins, scoundrels, bounty hunters, and pleasure seekers have come to his palace, and every visitor to Jabba’s grand abode has a story. Some of them may even live to tell it…”

Jabba had an extended role in Return of the Jedi. While the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars did put some focus on him, no movie before or hence has paid any heed to his character. While other movies and shows have allowed fans to take a glimpse into the normal lives of normal residents across the galaxy, the upcoming project on Jabba the Hutt would enable us to see the dark underbellies of the crime world in the galaxy.

While we wait for the movie, Star Wars: The Last Jedi will hit the theatre on December 15th this year.
