Olstead appeared on Still Standing as Lauren Miller. She was applauded for her performance on the show and was, later, awarded with the Young Artist Award for Best Performance in a TV Series (Comedy) – Supporting Young Actress for Still Standing in 2002.

She also appeared in the movie 13 Going on 30 and co-starred in the ABC series, The Secret Life of the American Teenager. The show showcases a fifteen-year-old’s struggle through an unplanned pregnancy and how it affects her surroundings. In the show, the actress played the role of Madison Cooperstein, one of the pregnant teenager’s best friends.

Olstead also dabbled with music for a while. She released a self-titled album. This was considered to be her official debut in the music industry. After that, Olstead performed in the Live 8 concert in Berlin on July 2, 2005.

Olstead has stated that she has always been inspired by the great jazz vocalists, Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughan.
