Earlier in the month, Anthony Durden was on board the New York City subway and was headed home after spending a long day at New York Comic Con. The 21-year-old fan was aboard an early morning train when to his horror a stranger came near him and attacked him with a knife.
“I look up and I see it coming down from this side,” Durden spoke toPix 11 recalling the attack. “I’m like, ‘yo, you slashed me in the face.'”
Durden said that the attacker laughed when he questioned him about why he attacked him. That prompted the youngster to hit the attacker in the head, however, he didn’t do it bare-handed. Durden used a piece of his Naruto cosplay as a weapon that he had brought along to the Comic Con and it was a ninja headband.
“I hit him in the face with what I had in my hand and he tried to slice me again,” Durden explained.
As soon as the subway halted to its next stop, the attacker ran off and went to an unknown location. Durden also exited and found someone from his church who attended his wound. The wound needed more than 20 stitches.
But, what the fan experienced will make Naruto and the entire Leaf Village proud. Durden wishes that the attacker should be arrested so that New York City’s subway becomes a bit safer and he also had something to say to the attacker.
“I forgive him,” Durden confessed. “At the end of the day, things happen. I’m thankful to be alive.”
The fans of the anime know how Durden’s pardon means a lot. Naruto has several heart-breaking sequences which compelled its heroes to either forgive or contain it. Naruto Uzumaki had faced a severe dilemma when he had to face Pain after that Akatsuki member killed Naruto’s mentor and razed his home. Various other ninjas such as Sasuke also had to contemplate about the value of forgiveness and Durden proved that he is a sincere ninja because he has forgiven his attacker.
