Disney buying Fox is not a sure thing, but if this happens, it may put Deadpool in a super interesting position.
Many were shocked when this news had hit that Disney is in talks to buy 20th Century Fox and this very well includes Deadpool’s, Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds had shared the story with a Deadpool caption. “If this is true, I wonder how the fudge it would affect Deadpool?”
It is a very good question, and while there seem to be no official answers, there are likely scenarios.
Disney’s current MCU is family friendly. Yes, there are adult themes, but they are layered in a way that one will not feel guilty bringing their children along for movies like Captain America and Iron Ma.
That is not the case with Deadpool, which has excelled at the box office thanks to its blend of action and sarcastic humor. It has earned an R rating, but Disney hardly releases R-rated content nowadays, especially in the superhero universe. They may ask the team to bring the humor down to a PG-13 level.
A more likely scenario is that after buying the studio, they will allow it to stay independent. That will allow Disney to enjoy the benefits of Fox’s R-rated content without hurting the family-friendly brand. Movies like Deadpool, X-Force, Logan may exist but will be under the 20th Century Fox label.
This will allow Disney to move over characters to Marvel as it chooses, including X-Men, while Fox can experiment with groups like the New Mutants.
If Disney did not take the X-Men characters back for Marvel, this new ownership will make crossovers a huge possibility.
The deal is nowhere near done and has been off and on for many months.
