Disney and Fox’s talks seem to be underway and moving pretty quick. According to Deadline‘s Mike Fleming, Disney is “progressing speedily” towards acquiring Fox. This will give the studio the rights to everything on the movie side, while the Murdoch family shall continue to maintain the ownership over sports and news.
“I just want to start with a juicy rumor that is fast gaining steam in town today, that Disney is progressing speedily toward that rumored acquisition of Fox. The version I heard has the Murdoch clan keeping possession of sports and news properties, and the rest of TV and the film studio going to Disney,” Fleming explained.
Fleming says that, should it take, Disney’s deal would be made like the deal with Lucasfilm was under silence. This suggests that instead of continuing to follow rumors about a possible deal, Disney and the 21st Century Fox will make the deal known once it is finished.
It had been revealed that Sony Entertainment instead of Sony Pictures showed interest in purchasing 21st Century Fox with some other companies like Comcast and Verizon.
As we have seen, the talks may change very fast and it means that nothing is set in stone until there is an official announcement. It appears that the two studios are nearing a deal that may be worrisome for Hollywood and exciting for the fans.
