A recent Fandango poll showed that Marvel’s upcoming movie Black Panther is among the most highly anticipated movies of 2018. The film is all set to be the first major comic book based film to release this year, and everything points to this one being really special. Although movie audiences are just tuning in to the character of Black Panther, he has a long and rich history in the world of comic books. That aspect, and also the fact that the upcoming movie is going to be nothing like anything seen so far in MCU or the superhero films in general, is highlighted in a fresh Black Panther featurette.

Kevin Feige, President of Marvel Studios, Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman, director Ryan Coogler and the legendary Stan Lee who is also the co-creator of the character, are all seen in this video where they talk about the film and Black Panther’s backstory. The video starts with visuals from Captain America: Civil War, the debut movie of T’Challa. Feige talks about the way the audiences lapped up the character, and Boseman talks about the film being a visual treat and also being a great character piece. This is what the star said about it.

“You want the wow factor, but it’s not just stuff blowing up. It definitely is a character piece..he has to look out for an entire nation. That’s a responsibility that the other superheroes don’t commonly have.

The video reveals that Black Panther has featured in the Marvel Comics Universe for over 50 years and he has the distinction of being the first superhero of color to get a solo comics from Marvel. The Black Panther debuted in Fantastic Four in 1966. However, he became a renowned and mighty Marvel character after getting his own solo comics. The King of Wakanda has a great deal of responsibilities.

Within Marvel Cinematic Universe and Hollywood’s environment overall, Black Panther is a crucial film. This is going to be the first modern comic book based film featuring a black superhero in the lead role, but, also a movie which has a majority African-American cast. That’s never been done before. While the film is not yet in cinemas, the audiences are eagerly waiting for it.

Black Panther releases on February 16, therefore, it is not much of a wait. If the film turns out to be as good as it promises to be, we will have a great time during the summer as well, because it is apparent that Black Panther and Wakanda will play a major role in Avengers: Infinity War too.
