There Is Someone In The ‘Dragon Ball’ Universe That Goku Can Never Beat

Goku has been a valuable character in the Dragon Ball universe since his inception. The protagonist has had odds stacked against him, battling adversaries like the Frieza, MajinBuu, Vegeta and the androids. But he manages to be better and stronger.

There just does not seem to be any obstacle that Goku cannot overcome. Such resilience has led us to believe that he is the strongest character in DB franchise. But that is not true now. There is someone who Goku will not be able to defeat. And the most shocking part about it? He is not a canon-#Broly.

Broly Is The Strongest Character In The Dragon Ball Universe

Sorry Goku, Broly Is Actually The Strongest Character In The Dragon Ball Universe:

Entering the scene in the Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan film, Broly was born with off-the-charts power levels. To give an idea of his potential, Goku was born with a power level of 2, while Broly was born with a 10,000 as he was the Legendary #SuperSaiyan. King Vegeta found this and feared the boy will grow up to be stronger than any Saiyan and he stabbed the baby. But Broly did not die.

He saved himself and his father from a garbage compactor before Frieza annihilated the planet. There was one problem: He was off. He was driven mad by Goku who was in the incubator. Goku would not stop crying which made Broly harvest a deep hatred for him.

He gave Goku a brutal beating and though he was defeated with the combined might of Z Fighters, “devil” went to reappear as the main antagonist in 2 more movies. While he has never made an appearance in the show, his recurring roles were a hint of his superior status.

Takao Koyama, the screenwriter for #DragonBallZ movies sat for an interview with Kanzenshuu. The writer was asked why Broly came back in 3 occasions.  Koyama dropped a bombshell: it is because Broly is the strongest character in Dragon Ball mythos:

“[H]e’s the strongest. Even including the TV anime, nobody exists in the world who’s stronger than Broly. I mean, even Vegeta, Prince of the Saiyans, was trembling in fear. I felt that there’s no way that kind of mightiest being would die in a single outing […] It’s always difficult coming up with an enemy for Goku, because I’d constantly have to escalate their strength. So, he ended up appearing three times.”

Koyama pointed out that he was defeated by unconventional methods because Goku would never be able to beat him in a one-on-one fight:

“Goku& co. are always fighting against ‘an unbeatable foe.’ Goku must win against such an enemy, so he has no choice but to defeat him when his enemy becomes overconfident and creates an opening. There’s absolutely no way he’d be able to win against someone like Broly if he used more orthodox methods.”

Those are bold claims, but there might be something to them. In the first film, Goku needed to absorb energy of Trunks, Piccolo, #Gohan and Vegeta to defeat Broly. But that was not enough to put him down so Brolycame back a second time.

Does This Statement Hold Up With What We’ve Seen In ‘Dragon Ball Super’?

Every new Dragon Ball season introduces a more powerful bad guy than the last, and we have gotten to a point where characters like Frieza, Cell and MajinBuu are rag dolls for Goku. Dragon Ball Super has introduced god-like characters that have forced Goku to push himself to limits, and he has achieved Super Saiyan transformations that we never dreamt about.

Going by that logic, should not defeating Broly be a cakewalk?

We need a sense of how Broly would fare against Goku and look at Kale. She may be shy, but her transformations turn her into a beast hell-bent on killing.

While she is not a Legendary Super Saiyan and considered Broly’s official canon counterpart and she can hold her own against Super Saiyan Blue Goku:

Looking at the evidence, it is hard to argue that Broly is not the strongest being in the Dragon Ball universe.
