Time for Young Sheldon fans to celebrate! The show is now officially going to get more episodes in the 2018-2019 season. A section of Big Bang Theory fans was concerned how CBS couldn’t manage to pull off the sitcom based on the formative years of Dr. Sheldon Cooper. However, the plans have been successful, and Young Sheldon has turned out to be among the most successful new shows in several years.

Earlier today, CBS announced about the show coming back for a season two. The next season of Young Sheldon is scheduled to air in the next fall, a news that came out at the winter TCAs. Kelly Kahl, the President of CBS, said this via a press release.

‘Young Sheldon has made a huge impact on our schedule in the short time it’s been on the air. While the show’s DNA is clearly rooted in The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon has staked out its own place in the TV universe with a unique creative tone, brilliant writing, and a gifted multi-generational cast. We can’t wait to see Chuck, Steve, Jim and Todd’s vision for how the Cooper family deals with Sheldon growing a year older… and smarter.”

Young Sheldon is not just a small deal for the network. It has now become the most-watched new comedy across all networks in the last 18 years. CBS has gone ahead with the decision to give the show its first extension for the 2018-2019 season.

The #1 new comedy in viewers (16.17m), adults 18-49 (3.3) and adults 25-54 (4.9), and is the #2 comedy across all networks (second only to The Big Bang Theory). It has managed to get the best retention for any show ever from The Big Bang Theory and is the best delivery of a fresh comedy from any network since the 1999-2000 season. It is a half-hour, single-camera sitcom featuring Iain Armitage, Zoe Perry, Lance Barber, Annie Potts, Raegan Revord, Montana Jordan and the voice of Jim Parsons. The show’s story revolves around Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory (Armitage) when he lived with his family as a 9-year-old in east Texas and attended a high school.

The Executive Producers are Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro, Jim Parsons and Todd Spiewak. The Young Sheldon is produced by Chuck Lorre Productions and Warner Bros. Television. Futon Critic shared the press release from CBS.
