The cult classic “The Karate Kid” is all set to have a sequel, this time on YouTube Red.

Titled “Cobra Kai” as of now, the series stars the original cast of Ralph Macchio as Daniel LaRusso and William Zabka as Johnny Lawrence. The series would be set 30 years after the events of ‘The Karate Kid”. It would portray Zabka as a man seeking redemption and Daniel as a famous person who is having troubles in his personal life. The reopening of the Cobra Kai karate dojo would reignite the rivalry between the duo. The series would be 10-episode long, each of half an hour and set to release in 2018.

In the words of Susanne Daniels, global head (original content, YouTube), “The minute I heard about this project, I knew we had to have it.” The channel seems to be thrilled with the idea, and the fact that a talented team and big names like Sony TV are associated with the project.

The series is written by some famous names. Josh Heald was the writer of the classic “Hot Tube Time machine,” while Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg are famous for the famed “Harold & Kumar” series. The duo also wrote and directed the comedy “American Reunion,” and would reprise that role for much of the current series.
