We saw how Harley Quinn and the Joker occupied a prominent place in the plot of last year’s film Suicide Squad which showed supervillains being forced to save the world. There were several flashback visuals with a great resemblance of the iconic artwork by Bruce Timm and Alex Ross. Those included Joker’s dance with Harley in the costume from the animation series.

While the dance had a very brief appearance in the film, however, the director of the movie, David Ayer shared a photo on social media which featured the couple in a famous Ross’ artwork pose. You can check it out below:

The Suicide Squad scene was a brief one which we saw in flashes during Amanda Waller’s description of Harley’s criminal origins and her romantic liaison with the smiling devil. The picture shared by Ayer shows the two actors striking a pose similar to a Ross artwork with the only difference being that in the photo Jared Leto is looking at Harley whereas the artwork had him staring in his troubling style at the viewer.

Tango With Evil

This image and the movie scene were based on a painting “Tango With Evil” by Ross. The painting showed Joker wearing a tuxedo and dancing with his assistant cum lady love.

The painting has a cult following among DC Comics fans, and it became so popular that Ross created another one wherein Batman enters the scene and pushes Harley aside while doing a choke hold on the Joker.

While Margot Robbie wore an entirely different outfit during the movie, the animation version was seen briefly in many Easter Eggs including this brief dance sequence. In the scene where the Squad prepared to move out of Belle Reeve to start the mission, Harley held this costume briefly, but, chose to put on something more suitable for the mission. Then again the costume was briefly seen on a mannequin in one of the shots of Joker’s lair.

David Ayer has regularly shared Joker’s images right from the time that he shot for Suicide Squad, but, none of those images are likely to work the fans up like this one. Undoubtedly, the dance sequence was among the most unforgettable scenes from the movie, and the center stage was held by the Joker and Harley in the film.

More Joker and Harley Quinn

We have a great chance of seeing more such things in the Gotham City Sirens, the sequel to Suicide Squad, the Joker origin movie as well as in the “Mad Love” film that will feature the romantic story of Joker and Harley. All that, however, is a thing of the future and we need to wait for those films to release.
