Star Trek: Discovery Will Kill Its Key Characters

Star Trek: Discovery has officially reported its plans to go where no Star Trek series has gone before by breaking Gene Roddenberry’s “no conflict” mandate and investigating the relational issues between Starfleet individuals. However, now the series is setting its sights on another unfamiliar zone: the deaths of key characters.



The news originates from show-runners Gretchen J. Berg and Aaron Harberts who have stated that the present TV scene has impacted the show. As a result, the fundamental characters will be facing a risk that may be deadly.

Gretchen J. Berg disclosed to Entertainment Weekly;

“Game of Thrones changed television. They almost made it difficult to fall in love with people because you didn’t know if they were going to be taken away from you. That show’s had an influence on all TV dramas that have come after it.”

Nevertheless, it doesn’t appear like Star Trek: Discovery will transform into a slaughter house or host a Red Wedding at any point in the near future. Harberts stated;

“Death isn’t treated gratuitously on this show. It’s not for shock value. But when it happens we want to make sure that people really feel it.”

Characters have died in various cycles of Star Trek earlier on as well. As it is, Tasha Yar (The Next Generation), Dax (Deep Space Nine), Kes (Voyager) and Trip Tucker (Enterprise) all died on their individual shows.

In any case, except for Tucker who died in the series’ last episode, all those deaths happened in view of issues in the background.
