Caution: This article contains spoilers for Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Theory started twirling around Zendaya’s part in Spider-Man: Homecoming practically from the minute she was cast a year ago. In addition to this, the disclosure that her character’s name is Michelle did little to pack down gossipy titbits. Is Michelle truly Mary Jane Watson? Or, on the other hand, perhaps she’s the secret daughter of Adrian Toomes, the wretched Vulture. What is it with Michelle, in any case?

Ever since Jon Watts’ franchise reboot is in theaters, we can state that Michelle Jones is no one from the Marvel Comics legend.

Basically, Zendaya’s character is a cynical, somewhat impolite, remarkably shrewd classmate of Tom Holland’s Peter Parker. She’s likewise the only individual, apart from Ned (Jacob Batalon), to suspect Peter. She’s fundamentally Allison from Breakfast Club yet played by Zendaya. This makes her one of the best things in an exceptionally wonderful film.

On a more mind boggling level, she’s also Mary Jane. Well, sort of, kind of. Ok. Not really.

It’s just obvious, her name is Michelle. However, towards the end of the movie, she reveals that she prefers to be called “M.J.” Like Mary Jane Watson, do you get that?

However, dissimilar to the “Robin” revelation towards the end of The Dark Knight Rises, this doesn’t feel irritating or even marginally like a bluff. As it is, Michelle isn’t Mary Jane, a character who’s been so crucial to Spider-Man’s history, both in comics and on the screen. Yet, by giving her the nickname “M.J.,” the producers are likely alluding to the significance she’ll have in Peter’s life.

The most intriguing part of the disclosure isn’t the name; it’s the conversation encompassing it: “My friends call me M.J.”

The accentuation, by both the movie producers and the character, isn’t on “M.J.” yet on “friends.” Peter expresses that he didn’t think Michelle had companions, to which she reacts that she does now.

That is a totally different character in comparison to the upbeat, party-cherishing Mary Jane who camouflaged her darkness with so much light that nobody could take note of it.

Michelle is M.J. minus all the excess baggage from many years of comics, or from Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man film series, or even from Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, from which Shailene Woodley’s scenes as Mary Jane were deleted.

In fact, Michelle is nearly similar to the unruly Gwen Stacy from Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man comics. While Michelle is probably not going to be murdered by Carnage in a spin-off of Spider-Man: Homecoming and after that changed into a version of the vampiric organism, there’s a really decent shot that she’ll find Peter’s secret.

All things considered, she’s the one with which he’s had the most interaction with in costume, and her demeanour as Peter leaves to meet Happy Hogan in the lavatory towards the end of the movie would appear to demonstrate she knows there’s a lot more to him.

Along these lines, Zendaya is Michelle, who is M.J. In any case, she’s unquestionably not Mary Jane. She’s way better.

Spider-Man: Homecoming features Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr. It’s in theatres now.
