Snoke Did Not Want To Kill Luke In “The Force Awakens” And Here’s Why

There is a lot to say about [Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens], and even more questions have been raised over the course of the movie that we are speculating the answers to.

Some of the biggest questions revolve around the mysterious Supreme Leader Snoke. Who is this giant man? What does he want with Rey (Daisy Ridley)? Why are fans creeped out by the fact that he took Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) as a child?

Snoke either is very powerful as he is described as being skilled with the dark side of the Force, maybe as a Sith, a First Order Knight or otherwise. What is his story? There is a lot of questions needing answered about the mysterious Snoke.

Let’s Talk Star Maps

But the motivations regarding movements of Kylo Ren and the First Order during the movie are a murky too. After Kylo discovers that Lor San Tekka (Max Von Sydow) has left the map in possession of Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) who gave it to BB-8 for safekeeping, Snoke then orders him to recover the orange droid, but to destroy it if necessary.

The map leads to Luke and the Jedi Temple.Luke, until Rey came along was the last Jedi in the Galaxy and so the only one who could have stood against Snoke and the First Order. The Temple, because it may contain something valuable to the Jedi, given that Luke has buggered off to seclusion to protect it and what lies within.

So What’s The Deal With Snoke & Luke?

Kylo wants to find Luke and the Temple as he tells General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson) that he wants BB-8 to be captured. Kylo wants to find and destroy Luke because he is the former master and the only one with powers to defeat him, but Snoke does not seem fussed about wiping out the last Jedi.

Does he think that Luke is not much of a threat? He may old, but that does not mean he is any less formidable. Yoda, one of the most skilled Jedi ever, is over 900 years old so we know that age is no indication.

ScreenRant has posited a decent sounding answer to the question, it may be that “Snoke knows that Kylo Ren is not strong enough to face his old Jedi master”. We have seen throughout the movie that though Kylo is formidable and feared for his temper if not just his skill, his training is incomplete.

So maybe Snoke just wasn’t confident in his apprentice’s abilities? Maybe he’s a wimp, as TechTimes posit that Snoke is “Very, Very Much Afraid Of Luke Skywalker”. Or maybe there’s something else, something tied to his backstory… Maybe… Maybe Snoke IS Luke Skywalker!!!

Of course, I joke. But any reason to give up the chance to find and kill Luke and destroy the Jedi Temple must be a pretty damn good one and odds are it has something to do with Snoke’s backstory and motivations, both of which are yet to be revealed.
