“While Jac didn’t get a chance to meet with ScarJo before she was tapped to pen BW, hearing the two are likely to sit down at the beginning of next month to talk about the film and how they see it going,” Kroll shared on Twitter.

Earlier this week, it was announced that Black Widow is in the preliminary stage of development, but, hasn’t yet received an official go ahead. Marvel Studio’s President Kevin Feige chose Schaeffer after having met various writers.

Johansson has played the spy-turned-superhero since the 2010 film Iron-Man 2, and she had met with Marvel executives to discuss the project. She reprised the role of Black Widow in 2012’s The Avengers, 2014’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier, 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron and 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.

Some of her old footage was reused in Thor: Ragnarok and Johansson will make her sixth Black Widow appearance in upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.

Schaeffer had recently written the Walt Disney Animation Studio’s film Olaf’s Frozen Adventure. She has also written a remake of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, titled Nasty Women which stars Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson. It will release in August, this year.

Johansson and various other leading actresses from Marvel including Ragnarok‘s Tessa Thompson, Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, and Pom Klementieff, and Captain Marvel‘s Brie Larson, met Kevin Feige to pitch for an all-women Marvel film, and he showed interest in the concept. However, no plans have been announced for such a movie.

Taika Waititi, who made his directorial debut in Thor: Ragnarok, stated in October about being ready to make a Black Widow film which will be “crazy and a bit funnier” than what the audiences might expect.

I really go for the underdog,” Waititi said. “I think there’s a way in with any of the characters. You just have to find it and find what honors what’s already there with the source material but also brings it into a more entertaining form for the audience.”

Avengers: Infinity War releases on May 4.
