Donald Glover will essay a role of iconic proportions in the realm of Star Wars when he portrays the character of Lando Calrissian next year in the untitled movie which is touted as a Han Solo spinoff.
However, the ace comedian/actor who is also a rapper and an acclaimed singer is quite accustomed to high-pressure scenarios and is likely to benefit from the guidance provided by the man popularly referred to as the coolest man in the Galaxy.
Hollywood Reporter discussed with Glover wherein he talked about a clandestine rendezvous with Billy Dee Williams, an occasion akin to passing on the baton which was facilitated by Lucasfilm.
“I was like, ‘I’ve always felt like this character could do this, and he represents this, and I kind of feel like he comes from here, and it’s very obvious he has a lot of taste, so maybe he grew up seeing that from afar? Because I’m like that. Maybe he saw it from other planets and was like; I want to be that.’”
He chuckled as he reminisced the conversation he had.
“He just let me ramble on and on, and then finally I was like, ‘So, what do you think?’ And he goes, ‘Yeah, I don’t know about all that. Just be charming.’”
The discussion mentioned above and Glover’s keenness to dissect Lando’s character and his efforts to find out how he could improvise the character are the testimony to his commitment towards work and display how he gives more than 100% to the projects he undertakes.
He also mentioned about former directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller being replaced by Ron Howard and his role in the new scheme of things.
We are all excited and expect a superb portrayal of the ‘Gambler turned General’ by this supremely talented performer when the movie hits theatres on May 25th 2018.
The new film is set to a period prior to Han Solo’s first appearance in Star Wars: Episode 4 – A New Hope, and features Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo along with Woody Harrelson, Emilia Clarke, Donald Glover, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Joonas Suotamo.
It is speculated that the film will depict the first meeting of Han Solo and Chewbacca with Lando Calrissian (the character essayed by Glover).
