Dragon Ball fans have felt the sting of a failed live-action movie. Hollywood dropped the dragon balls when 20th Century Fox adapted Akira Toriyama’s series. However, Thailand did a much better job with it.

So, do you think Dragonball Evolution was the only live-action take on Goku?

Over the years, unofficial adaptations have been produced in South Korea, but Thailand’s film has made fans most gobsmacked.

Dragon Ball: The Magic Begins is 85 minutes of unadulterated scenes. The film debuted in 1991 and is a live-action take on Dragon Ball film “Curse of the Blood Rubies.” The anime saw Goku band with his friends taking on King Horn, a baddie who wanted to use dragon balls to take over the world.

The movie is simple: Son Goku teams up with fighters to keep King Horn from getting the seven Dragon Pearls. The villain has two, but Goku works with Turtle Man, Piggy, and Seetoe to prevent Shenron from being summoned.

The Thailand film does not refer to its characters by name. Goku is relegated to Monkey Boy, and Bulma becomes Seetoe. Grandpa Gohan, Kame, Yamcha, Oolong and more have hit the big screen.

The unlicensed feature does not have the best graphics, but it makes up with heart. The trailer for Dragon Ball: The Magic Begins proves its loyalty to Toriyama’s series.

Hollywood burned bridges when its Dragon Ball adaptation flopped, but there is hope that the Saiyan race may return triumphantly to theaters.
