Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the biggest stars on the planet, loved by fans all over the word. Yet, he has surprisingly kept his distance from the superhero genre. Well, this might change if artist Todd McFarlane has his way. In an exclusive interview with Vulture, McFarlane talked about how he thinks DiCaprio would be a perfect match for playing Twitch in his upcoming venture.

McFarlane shared that he specifically had Leonardo in mind while writing the script for Spawn. Apparently impressed by his role in Wolf of Wall Street, McFarlane explained:

“It was almost dizzying emotionally to go with him. There are parts in this movie where I’m going to need an actor to make those moves both in terms of normality and in terms of manic, and in terms of joy and in terms of anger and be able to go to some extremes in it”.

Spawn was co-created was McFarlane in 1992, starring a former soldier who was killed by his companions, only to come back to live as a super powered being after making a deal of servitude with a demon. Maxmilian “Twitch” Williams, the character which Leonardo was supposed to match, is an NYPD homicide detective known for his excellent detective skills.

The Spawn reboot is one of the highly anticipated movies currently, despite the failure of the 1997 film. The exact details of the project are still kept under wraps, but McFarlane did hint that there are talks with a number of Hollywood biggies for the central role. The project is created in association with Blumhouse Productions, which was responsible for bringing The Purge series on the silver screen. Given MacFarlane’s habit of drawing pop-culture references in his work, Spawn might be a big success for that factor alone.
