Various DC Films projects are under production right now, and quite a few of them feature Harley Quinn. However, fans are keen to find out in which film will we see Margot Robbie’s next cinematic appearance. She has now confirmed that she will once again play the psycho criminal next year, but, she didn’t clarify which film it is going to be.
Robbie made the statement on Variety’s “Actors on Actors” where she appeared alongside Jake Gyllenhaal. This episode is scheduled to appear on January 2.
For last several months, we have heard about Suicide Squad 2 beginning production in 2018, especially after director Gavin O’Connor (The Accountant) joining the project. O’Connor is writing as well as directing the movie, although, Warner Bros. hasn’t given any official confirmation about the 2018 start. But, now Margot Robbie’s latest comments are a strong indicator that Suicide Squad 2 is most likely the film where we will next see Harley Quinn.
However, she might even be talking about the recently announced animation series, which she is supposed to be a part of.
Robbie also stated that the reason to take on the role was David Ayer’s Jake Gyllenhaal starrer End of Watch.
“The reason I signed on for Suicide Squad was because I love End of Watch so much and I saw it about four times at the cinema,” Robbie said.
She once again confessed her love for the character of Harley Quinn and her desire to keep playing it as long as possible.
“Harley’s one of those insane characters and people do seem to really like her, so I hope I get to keep playing her.”
While Suicide Squad 2 is most likely the next movie on the list, that’s not the only under development film depicting Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn.
Rumors have been doing rounds about Gotham City Sirens to be directed by Ayer, which is also expected to feature other female Batman villains Catwoman and Poison Ivy. While Ayer has claimed working on the project, not much progress has been reported about the film. Besides that, there is a “Mad Love” inspired film showcasing Joker’s romance with Harley Quinn which will feature a modified version of the love between these two characters. Robbie has minimum one movie to expect and many other possibilities likely to be explored in the future.
Suicide Squad 2 is scheduled for a 2019 release.
