In the closing scenes of The Force Awakens, Luke Skywalker is shown wearing typical Jedi robes. However, we know now that he will be seen in a different costume which is going to be a hit in the merchandise market. This second outfit gives him a darker shade which is in contrast to how he is seen during his face-off with Rey on Ahch-To.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will reveal in December as what exactly did Luke go through during the last thirty years. It is not a secret that he was lying low on the seaside cliffs at Ahch-To, shutting himself down in an ancient Jedi Temple. The unanswered question is why did he do that? Director Rian Johnson has stated that Luke will appear as a devastated person who is unhappy with the Jedi ways. Even the teaser trailer showed Luke saying that the only truth he knew was that time is up for the Jedi!

It would be interesting to know what made the aging Jedi to make such an assessment. The answer will be found by Rey much to her dislike. The fact is that Luke’s outlook on life and the Jedi is quite pessimistic in this film. He is not going to play the protective father figure sort of role that Rey has already discovered in Han Solo. This Luke is conflicted, nasty and unhappy about having his hiding place discovered by Rey, where he was killing his time with old volumes of Jedi books of wisdom.

As we know him, Luke was once an upright Jedi knight with a positive outlook who believed in Ben Solo being the chosen one. However, the turn of events leading to Ben morph into Kylo Ren and hobnobbing with Dark Side under Snoke and The First Order’s guidance made things worse. Now we will see Mark Hamill in a darker costume and looking ready for a fascinating battle against his internal as well as external evils. We are sure that this is going to be an unprecedented war and the secret is about to tumble out. Just be a bit patient.

The new look Luke Skywalker was first seen on a Hungarian magazine Mozimania’s cover. It is seen that Luke’s style matches that of his nephew and that certainly doesn’t look lovely. There is a strong chance of Luke beginning to teach Rey about the ways of the Force. However, he is quite jittery about the whole thing, even more than how Yoda was when Skywalker met him first on Dagobah in the film Empire Strikes Back. See below to find out what Mark Hamill’s take is on the change in the outlook of the man that we see today.

“The fact that Luke says, ‘I only know one truth. It’s time for the Jedi to end…’ I mean, that’s a pretty amazing statement for someone who was the symbol of hope and optimism in the original films. When I first read it, my jaw dropped. What would make someone that alienated from his original convictions? That’s not something that you can just make up in an afternoon, and I really struggled with this thing. [Luke] made a huge mistake in thinking that his nephew was the chosen one, so he invested everything he had in Kylo, much like Obi-Wan did with my character. And he is betrayed, with tragic consequences. Luke feels responsible for that. That’s the primary obstacle he has to rejoining the world and his place in the Jedi hierarchy, you know? It’s that guilt, that feeling that it’s his fault, that he didn’t detect the darkness in him until it was too late.”

Most of Mark Hamill’s initial scenes will see him share screen space with Daisy Ridley who plays Rey and will also feature Chewbacca and R2-D2 who have been staying on Ahch-To, perched in the Millenium Falcon, dedicated to watching out for anyone who comes seeking the old Jedi. The main cast of the movie comprises of Andy Serkis, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, the late Carrie Fisher and debutantes Laura Dern and Beniciodel Toro. Have a look at the older and Darker Luke Skywalker here and watch out for more updates that will be headed your way in next few days.
